CB Insights has released their latest report which highlights investments in fintech and sector trends to watch; they found in 2019 that fintech funding reached $34.5 billion across 1,913 deals, making it a record year if you remove Ant Financial’s $14 billion deal in 2018; almost 50% of funding in 2019 was concentrated into what CB Insights calls 83 mega-rounds of over $100m+ for a total of $17.2 billion; the record mega-rounds was evident in every market except for Europe; this is a signal that fintech startups are continuing to mature and are also opting to raise private rounds instead of going public; the entire report covers all areas of fintech, highlighting other data points across the globe.
