There was an analysis done in 2017 showing that 2 percent of VC capital went to startups founded by women and only 9 percent of decision makers at VC firms were women; almost 2 years later the situation has not improved and investors are missing out on a big opportunity; a recent study by Mass Challenge found that for every dollar invested women run startups generated 78 cents compared to 31 cents for men run startups; writing in Crowdfund Insider Helena Murphy talks about some of the issues that plague the industry; gender bias is a key issue, the investment industry is still run by men and there is a lot of old fashion sexism that still occurs; female founders are better at presenting numbers in investor meetings and should do more to highlight this more; educating women founders is the solution, understanding the different types of funding and how they can serve your goals.
