Marketplace Lenders Support UK Housing Market Initiative

The UK government has released a white paper discussing its real estate property development initiative; UK P2P lenders continue to support the initiative through alternative funding for real estate borrowers; the government will also manage a 1 billion British pound ($1.25 billion) fund for financing specialized real estate developers; the UK is targeting 200,000 new homes.  Source

Report Says Marketplace Lending Investments Becoming More Mainstream

A report from P2P lender BondMason says wealth managers are becoming more aware of and comfortable with marketplace lending investments; over half of wealth managers would now recommend marketplace lending investments as an alternative to mainstream cash products; institutional investors are also increasingly allocating to marketplace loans with over half of the product's investments attributed to institutional investors.  Source

Lending Works Launches Innovative Finance ISA

Lending Works has launched its innovative finance ISA; company offers unsecured loans to consumers; investors can invest over three or five years earning approximately 4% to 4.7% respectively; platforms RateSetter, Zopa and Funding Circle are still awaiting full authorization; on the subject of the major players still awaiting authorization Matthew Powell, director at Lending Works commented: "Among peer-to-peer firms there is some frustration over why it's taken so long. The regulator might have uncovered some things that they're not entirely happy about. I think the FCA has been surprised in the variation over the types of platforms they have had to examine. We're an easier prospect than some to understand - we're literally just the middleman, we don't take a balance sheet risk, and we don't lend our own money."  Source

Credit Peers Launches in the UK for Property Lending

New marketplace lending real estate platform Credit Peers has launched for investors with a minimum investment of 500 British pounds ($618.64); the firm is offering individual investors the opportunity to invest in commercial real estate properties; the platform elicits borrowers for commercial properties including multi-residential, office and retail buildings; it plans to focus on connecting individuals with investments in the commercial property market.  Source

UK Reports Record Month for P2P Consumer Lenders

UK consumer lending platforms reported originations of 154 million British pounds ($191.81 million) in January which topped a previous high in September 2016; Zopa led UK consumer lenders in January with originations of 80 million British pounds ($99.64 million); other consumer lenders contributing to the January record included RateSetter, Lending Works, Funding Secure and Lendable.  Source

MarketInvoice Launches MarketInvoice Pro

MarketInvoice has launched a new product for invoice discounting; MarketInvoice Pro provides an open funding line through new technology that will make invoice financing easier and faster for businesses with an ongoing need for funding; to support the new product growth, MarketInvoice recently received a 7.2 million British pound ($9.04 million) investment from MCI Capital and Northzone Partners; with the launch of MarketInvoice Pro the firm plans to double its lending for 2017 with targeted loan originations of 2 billion British pounds ($2.51 billion).  Source

UK Government Looks to End Wholesale Lending Market

The UK government has told P2P lenders that wholesale lending does not count under the current regulations and the practice is too risky for retail investors; wholesale lending is when you lend money to a business who then lends that money out; the FCA said, "this would mimic banking – but without the same protection for individuals or regulations for the firms involved"; P2P lender RateSetter started to wind down their wholesale loan book after getting more clarity from the FCA in December; the FCA still hasn't provided full clarity on the subject, but they are at least beginning to give more insight so lenders know where the boundaries are.  Source

Innovate Finance Reports on Global Fintech Investment for 2016

Innovate Finance has released a report on fintech investment showing global investment in fintech increasing but decreasing in the UK; global fintech investment increased by 10.9% in 2016 to $17.4 billion; in the UK, fintech investment decreased by 33.7% to $783 million; fintech investment in China and the US accounted for $13.9 billion of the total $17.4 billion.  Source
