According to CB Insights, fintech companies raised $39.6 billion in 2018, up 120% from the previous year; the number of deals also increased to 1,707 deals, up from 1,480 in 2017; there were 52 rounds with investments over $100 million which made up just under $25 billion of the total which included a $14 billion investment in Ant Financial; several companies joined the ranks of companies worth over $1billion including Brex, Monzo and Plaid; CB Insights anticipates that 2019 will not be a big year for IPOs.
