Current is a New York-based digital bank with around 800,000 customers, many of whom live paycheck to paycheck; they have made a number of adjustments as a result of the pandemic; Current expanded their free overdraft product called Overdrive, they gave their customers early access to the Federal stimulus checks, helped them with their unemployment benefits and more; CEO Stuart Sopp told Banking Dive that digital banks in general have seen an uptick in interest during the pandemic, “Digital banks offer a better solution to the problem of liquidity for the majority of Americans, who all need access to premium and affordable banking, through utilizing technology that provides faster and more immediate access to paychecks and eliminates the need for in-person banking”.
