According to data compiled by Preqin/INSEAD Chinese startups brought in more than $56bn in the first half of 2018, while their U.S. counterparts saw $42bn; this was the first time Chinese startups attracted more funding than U.S. startups; China has also closed the gap on unicorns with 98, compared to 162 based in the U.S.; Christopher Elvin, Head of Private Equity at Preqin, tells AltFi, “With several unprecedentedly large funds in market to raise capital for investment in the sector, the prospects are bright for further developments in the China-based startup market.” Source.
