Scott Sanborn’s LendIt keynote in 2017 was a seminal moment for the industry; it was his first keynote as CEO and he shared how the company was able to overcome the adversity from 2016; more importantly, in this keynote Sanborn gave us the first glimpse into his thinking on expanding the LendingClub marketplace; he gave the example of Amazon when they opened up their marketplace to other vendors and that LendingClub was considering doing something similar; it is interesting that today LendingClub talks about creating a “marketplace bank” that would encompass many of the principles he first shared in 2017.
