Union Bank & Trust is a family-owned institution with 900 employees; they are by far a big name in banking, ranking 202nd in the nation’s largest banks by assets; however the bank moved incredibly fast when it came to the Payment Protection Program loans; after 72 hours, the bank ranked second in the nation for loans approved according to the Small Business Administration; other banks were much slower with Citigroup not beginning applications until five days after the program first rolled out; when some bigger banks were still trying to launch, Union Bank & Trust and others had already been processing applications; the Washington Post shares more about these lesser known names and how the PPP program played out.
