Both Marlette and LendingClub now have their own securitization platforms which has broadened their investor base; Sid Jajodia, chief investment officer at LendingClub spoke at the Structured Finance Industry Group’s conference in Las Vegas this week and discussed the importance of brining LendingClub’s loans in-house; he also spoke about their new whole-loan structured product announced in December as well as changes that might make sense for the company in the future; Karan Mehta, head of capital markets for Marlette discussed changes they are making to their whole-loan program. The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its October jobs report; data showed an increase of 161,000 jobs in October with the unemployment rate decreasing to 4.9%; continues positive momentum in the labor market after an increase of 191,000 jobs in September. Source

Emerging online lending platforms from traditional banks could be the market's disruptors with their ability to offer low fees; few banks have emerged with proprietary online lending platforms however the fee structures offered by Marcus from Goldman Sachs have caused some industry participants to fear the emergence of similar models; other speculators believe traditional banks are not agile enough to build and offer market leading online lending capabilities in a competitive timeframe; Orchard says competition will be fierce but the end result is likely to produce improved and expanded access to capital for customers. The Asian Banker has awarded CreditEase Wealth Management with its first Best Non-Bank Private Wealth Product award; the award was part of the Asian Banker's awards program which has been recognizing financial services companies for 16 years; voting was done by an advisory board using detailed criteria to identify the non-bank with the best solutions for meeting the needs of high net worth customers by matching their risk profiles and investment objectives; CreditEase's CEO Ning Tang said its wealth planners focus on cross-border, cross-regional portfolios with multi-asset classes for clients and that its Toumi RA robo advisor service was created to help clients evaluate and minimize risks with a scientific portfolio. Japanese banks are looking at digital payments due to a recent regulatory change which may bring in more competition; the law will be introduced in phases which makes it easier for depositors to give third parties access to both their accounts and data; it is part of a government push to reduce high cash use in the country; Projects around QR codes, blockchain and digital currencies are currently in the works.
