Hertz Partnership Affecting Business for Shift.com

Shift.com, a peer-to-peer used car online marketplace, has partnered with Hertz to sell the rental car business' cars on its platform; the partnership is changing the firm's business model and providing a bridge for future growth; the platform seeks to offer 20% of its used car inventory from Hertz and will also focus new market launches around new Hertz inventory; the partnership will help to reduce costs of used car acquisition which has resulted in a reduction of 25 employees from the firm's workforce; licensing details are also a factor which have caused the firm to temporarily pause its business in Washington, D.C.; the firm's website currently markets its services in Los Angeles, Orange County, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.  Source

Banks Look to Break Up Government Monopoly on Student Loans

The main lobbying group for banks, the Consumer Bankers Association, is trying to get the government to add caps on how much graduate students and parents of undergraduates can borrow from the government; caps would force people to go to private lenders and would benefit those with better credit histories; there is also a group of investors trying to get clearer legislation passed for income sharing agreements; changes could result in billions of dollars worth of opportunities for banks and investors as the most recent academic year totaled $107bn. Executive Changes at CAN Capital

The board of directors at CAN Capital, an online lender for small businesses, has named Parris Sanz as the company's chief executive officer and promoted Ritesh Gupta to chief operating officer; the new executives will be focusing on process improvements and market positioning as the company seeks to grow its lending business for small companies; CAN Capital has been an industry leader in small business marketplace lending with more than $6 billion funded since 1998; the firm is primarily focused on providing merchant cash advances.  Source
