Nutmeg Shows Mixed Results in Disclosures

The UK’s biggest robo-advisor has seen assets under management grow to over $798mn and customers exceed 25,000 at the end of 2016; however the company also reported a 5 percent increase in losses and a 10 percent increase in operating expenses; building up scale to eventually make money looks to be the biggest challenge for the growing fintech company. Nvidia CEO Bullish on Cryptocurrencies

Nvidia CEO recently explained to VentureBeat: "Cryptocurrency and blockchain are here to stay. Over time, it will become quite large. It is very clear that new currencies will come to market."; Nvidia makes graphic cards that help cryptocurrency miners to add new transaction blocks; Nvidia believes there is a lot to gain from the recent trend in cryptocurrencies as the rise in coin prices results in higher demand for cards; not all graphic card makers see the benefits, as CoinDesk points out that rival company AMD is not as bullish and they don't think there is a long term market for them in the space; the graphic cards, known as GPUs, are used to mine newer cryptocurrencies like ethereum and litecoin. NY Fed President Dudley Says U.S. Central Bank Could Explore Their Own Digital Currency

Federal Reserve Bank of New York President William Dudley said the U.S. central bank is starting to think about adopting its own digital currency; while talks are in their infancy Mr. Dudley does see the value in the technology behind bitcoin; he doesn’t see bitcoin being a rival to the dollar as it is currently to unstable. NY Fed Shares Data on Fintech Mortgages

According to a New York Federal Reserve report, online mortgage lenders approve loans faster, experience fewer defaults and encourage more refinancing; not surprisingly they are also able to respond to customers as demands shift; the report studied banks and fintechs to better understand the market; lending from fintechs has grown by 30% annually since 2010, from $34 billion to $161 billion, representing 8% of the market. NYDFS Examining Online Lenders

The New York Department of Financial Services continues to thoroughly investigate the business practices of online lenders; a proposal is in process that would require increased regulation for online lenders; specifically new regulations would be instituted for all lenders making personal loans of $25,000 or less and business loans of $50,000 or less and would also apply to online lenders involved in soliciting loans and buying loans.  Source
