The Ranger Direct Lending Fund is trading at a discount to its NAV in part due to effects from issues at Argon Credit; the Fund had exposure of $28 million to Argon when it announced its bankruptcy in December 2016; while it said the Fund would see little effect from the exposure it has now announced a write-down from holdings in the Princeton Alternative Income fund which was affected by Argon Credit; further developments continue to occur and volatility is expected to continue for the Fund's share price. In a letter to the board at OnDeck, Marathon Partners has outlined changes they want to see enacted; Marathon believes OnDeck has put a premium on growing their originations instead of getting costs under control and growing shareholder value; additionally they have been disappointed with OnDeck's corporate governance and executive compensation practices; the private equity firm recommends the lender cut costs to get them under control and seek the sale of the company to a stable partner. David Kimball became Prosper's CEO in 2016 after serving as CFO for the firm; in February the firm signed a deal with a consortium of investors committing a potential $5 billion in loan investments for the platform over the next two years; Kimball talks about the firm's business, his perspective on fintech and his experiences as CFO and CEO. Jamie Dimon dedicated a portion of his annual letter to talk about regulations on mortgage lending; states that regulations have led to a slow recovery, reducing mortgage lending by about $300 billion annually; provides his perspective on FHA lending where non-banks have taken a significant market share; on servicing mortgages, Dimon wrote, "new mortgage rules and regulations total more than 14,000 pages and stand about six feet tall."; this has made it expensive to service troubled mortgages. Ohpen, which provides banking technology services, is partnering with insurance giant Aegon; Aegon plans to replace standalone systems for pensions, savings, current accounts and wealth management with the new platform; Ohpen's technology runs on AWS and Aegon will plugin via the API-based interface; Chris Zadeh, Ohpen's CEO stated: "If you want to be ready for the future and save an enormous amount of code, you should have one administrative system for all these different brands. Aegon and Knab and their pensions will use the same cloud-based administrative system, and that's ours." Source

P2P loan originations for Chinese online lender Dianrong more than doubled from 2015 to 2016; the platform reported 2016 originations of 16.2 billion yuan ($2.3 billion) and the firm plans to continue growing its market share as regulations help the success of established P2P lending firms in China; Dianrong's co-founder and co-CEO, Kevin Guo, talked with Reuters about the firm's growth and China's evolving market; says smaller firms will have difficulty staying in business and that Dianrong plans to grow significantly in the near-term with a new funding round and the goal to grow loan originations by 50% annually over the next three to five years.
