Bitcoin Software Addition 'SegWit' Could Make Digital Currency Faster The Bitcoin community is ready to roll out an enhancement to the digital currency's code base; SegWit (which stands for "Segregated Witness") separates the encrypting of the transaction information from the currency miner's validation signature; currency miners need extensive computing resources and time to prove that a transaction is true and valid, therefore this step has traditionally slowed down the recording of transactions; done with testing, the new SegWit feature could be released as soon as November 15th; it is considered officially adopted once 95% of the Bitcoin software community deploys the code; this could take as little as a month or two, or significantly longer.
LendingRobot shares returns for the second quarter; aggregated return for the LendingRobot series was 2.7% year to date; there are currently four risk-based funds in the series ranging from short term conservative to long term aggressive; loans included in the funds are from Lending Club, Prosper, Funding Circle and Lending Home; the series funds are available to accredited investors for investment. Business Insider has released a report on US regulation and fintech; says US regulation is a hindrance to the growth of the industry and is slowing its potential; the report titled, "The US Fintech Regulation Report," provides details on regulatory agencies' involvement with fintech and outlines their initiatives; explains the negative effects of regulation on the industry. MPOWER Financing, which provides funding for international students attending US universities, secured $6 million in funding; the round was led by private equity firm, Zephyr Peacock India; the company will use the capital to enhance its technology and expand marketing efforts in emerging markets, especially India; in addition to providing loans the company also helps to build credit history of students and provides them with personal finance education to use in life after college. The fundraising round was led by TransUnion, Hearst, and Macquarie with participation from existing investors Uprising and John Mack; firm plans to use the funding for expansion of its data analytics platform services; it will also extend its services to the traditional lending market; following the deal, Steve Chaouki, executive vice president and head of TransUnion's financial services business unit, will join the PeerIQ board along with Shea Wallon, managing director of Hearst's Financial Venture Fund. Starting August 1 at about 8:20 AM EST, the bitcoin blockchain split, and there is a new set of tokens - bitcoin cash (BCC) - on the new blockchain; bitcoin's price dropped about 10% from $2,944 to $2,632 in about forty minutes, according to bitcoin trading platform OKCoin. Source (Chinese)
