From the deal, Finicity will gain data sharing access to Wells Fargo's customer data for its clients which include personal financial management providers and online lenders; the deal is one of many currently underway for Wells Fargo and Finicity as well as numerous other market participants; overall, market consensus from American Banker shows less tension between banks and third party providers with companies such as Intuit reporting an increased interest from all parties involved in improving the experience for customers; American Banker also notes that as data sharing becomes more prevalent there's likely to be an evolution of technology that helps facilitate the connectivity. Recent research shows that younger consumers are uncomfortable with carrying credit card balances; consumers are more comfortable with products like personal loans that are more transparent and easier to understand; there has been an increased interest in point of sale financing; one company driving this trend is GreenSky which partners with banks to fund loans; the proportion of consumer loans going to point of sale financing has increased significantly at banks that partner with GreenSky including Regions, Synovus and Fifth Third. Renaud Laplanche has announced the launch of a new online consumer lending platform called Upgrade; the firm's investors include Apoletto, CreditEase, FirstMark Capital, Noah Holdings, Ribbit Capital, Sands Capital Ventures, Silicon Valley Bank, Union Square Ventures, Uprising and Vy Capital; the firm will partner with WebBank for loan originations and plans to sell its loans to institutional investors; it is working with Jefferies on its capital markets strategy and a loan securitization program; the firm also has plans to use blockchain for data management and transactions.
