Chase Begins New Marketing Campaign to Attract Millennials to Zelle

Chase is starting a new marketing campaign by using GIFs across social media channels in an effort to get millennials to use their QuickPay product by Zelle; the campaign shows a shift by the bank to make campaigns more personalized and geared at a younger target market; Donna Vieira, chief marketing officer for Chase’s consumer bank tells TearSheet, “The channels, mediums and media you use; the copy and creative form like memes and GIFs. Clearly 15 years ago this would be nonexistent, but it’s how this audience communicates with each other, tells their stories and what they find engaging.”; Chase saw a 50 percent increase in p2p transactions in 2017 and a 15 percent increase in new enrollments for their app. Source.

Bots Are Beginning to Make Inroads at Banks

Banks are coming under increasing pressure to update legacy systems and provide a more digitized experience to customers, automated bots are another tool beginning to be used; while most banks are still in pilot mode, some are beginning to have wider adoption as they have seen how technology in other areas of the bank have improved efficiency and experience; "The technology works and banks are starting to have more confidence in them," explained KPMG's Managing Director for Emerging Technology Risk Services Kiran Nagaraj, bots can help make interaction with customers more efficient and allow for high-volume, repetitive processes and tasks to be done a lot faster.  Source

51 Credit Card Launches RMB1bn Investment Fund

51 Credit Card, in cooperation with Harvest Investment, has launched an investment fund with RMB1 billion ($150 million); 51 Credit Card in particular favors companies with good online lending users, big data and traffic acquisition capacity. Source (Chinese)

New Korean Regulation Limits P2P Investments for Most Individuals

Korea's Financial Services Commission just issued a guideline that limits most individual investors from committing more than 10 million won ($8,750) to P2P investments in a year; those individuals who have earnings over 100 million won ($87,500) can still commit up to 40 million won to P2P; Korean P2P platforms are complaining that investments in any equity project or loan portfolio tend to be skewed to a few individuals who invest more than 10 million won (60% of investors fall into this category on average across platforms there), therefore the new regulation will drive up funding costs; regulators say this over-concentration of funds from few investors is precisely the trend they hope to curtail.  Source

A venture capitalist blogpost from avc.com provides some interesting predictions for 2017; expects the US stock market to continue its bullish trend higher into the first half of 2017 with support from corporate and personal tax cuts from President Trump; thinks tech initial public offerings (IPOs) will increase in 2017; Google and Facebook will see some challenges as monopolies; software as a service companies will consolidate; artificial intelligence (AI) will continue emerging with corporate AI strategies a top priority for businesses; venture capitalists will invest in genomics and biometrics; crypto programming will be important for cybersecurity.  Source
