Lessons Learned from Capital One’s Chatbot Eno

Capital One’s chatbot Eno just turned one recently and the bank talked about what they learned this past weekend at SXSW; Carla Saavedra Kochalski, director of conversational AI products, tells TearSheet “We saw there was a huge need to build something smarter and more conversational, not only for those types of experiences but to allow customer service through texting.”; the technology is still limited and in most cases customers still interact on a simple basis like asking for an account balance or approving a questionable transaction. Chase Preparing to launch Express Branches Next Month

The new express branches are meant to help customers with routine transactions like withdrawals and deposits; customers looking for further advice or a loan would be able to connect via videoconference or go to a typical branch; they are looking to serve millennials in a more efficient way and allow them to access bankers and wealth managers through a digital experience using iPads; removing some of the human intensive areas of the bank and making it more self serve will cut down on costs and help to serve the younger, digital customers. Startup Helps Chinese Investors Access US Markets

Chinese startup Niu Jiao Suo is connecting Chinese investors with foreign mutual funds; investors can currently access funds offered by Blackrock, Vanguard, JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs; investors are limited by $50,000 per year but can start with as little as $400; interestingly Niu Jiao Suo is not managing its users money and focuses on ensuring users don't exceed the $50,000 limit; according to Crowdfund Insider: "After funds are deposited into a user's account, the money is sent directly to a custodial account managed by DBS Bank. Niu Jiao Suo's primary role is conducting due diligence on the users to make sure they have a clean background and are not US citizens." Source

P2P Global Investments Fund Reviewing Its Investment Manager

The P2P Global Investments Fund is reviewing its fund management arrangements with investment manager MW Eaglewood Europe LLP; MW Eaglewood has submitted plans for improving the performance of the fund which include fund management changes and a discount reduction plan; further discussions over the fund's management are expected to continue; the fund is also reporting some factors that could improve including better risk default characteristics from loans concentrated at durations of 7 to 21 months and increased utilization of credit facilities.
