Orange is a large French telecom company located in France; users will be able to create an account in an Orange store or completely online; service will be open to non-Orange customers; there will be no monthly fees provided users use their attached payment card; Orange has also partnered with IBM's Watson to provide user support and is also working to add insurance products and loans to the service. Cross River Bank has added David Cotney to its board of directors; David Cotney brings in-depth experience in banking regulation and specifically bank chartering to the firm's board of directors; Cotney previously served as commissioner of banks for the Massachusetts Division of Banks where he was responsible for licensing and supervision of state-chartered financial entities; his industry experience also includes roles as chairman of the State Liaison Committee of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council and chairman of the Board of Directors of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors. Abe Smith, founder and CEO of UK based Dealflo tells Banking Technology about the big opportunity for UK fintechs in China; China and the UK have recently formed as closer partnership with Teresa May signing s number of deals and partnerships; three key areas for UK fintechs to focus on include approaching China for the unique market it is, work with a local group or team of advisors and understand the complex data residency programs. SoFi said it missed their internal 4th quarter earnings projections due to lower than expected loan performance, increased hiring costs and expenses related to management changes according to the WSJ; the company also said they expect the loan performance trend to continue into 2018 as the look to refine their credit model; the company is also looking to improve fraud prevention, automate loan processing and get better at collections.
