UK millennial banking app, Loot, has raised $2.5 million from backers that include SpeedInvest and Global Founders Capital; Loot is an app for millennials to monitor spending and transactions; an account is setup using a photo, ID/passport and a UK address. Source
Able Lending has one of the industry's most unique business models, allowing small business lenders to source loans from their personal network to lower lending costs; Lend Academy interviews Will Davis of Able Lending for more insight on the platform's business; at Able Lending, personal network backers take a subordinated position, allowing the lead lender to get paid back first while offering a lower cost of borrowing overall; the firm has been successful with this lending model, reporting over 80% of loans utilizing backers; it has also seen steady origination growth, with volume growing from $3 million in the first year to $30 million in the second year and an expected $100 million in its third year. Salt Lending has written a blog post sharing the immense amount of interest in their blockchain backed loans; since launching on December 28th, 2017 they have issued $23 million in loans yet there is still demand of over $1.3 billion; the company is working on scaling and automating processes, but is focusing on addressing existing demand before adding new members. In Orchard's Weekly Online Lending Snapshot, the company introduces a new section on US marketplace lending funds and highlights the growing business also noting RiverNorth's November 17 webcast, "Incorporating Marketplace Lending into an Institutional Portfolio"; notable data points from the snapshot include monthly gains in publicly traded companies for Lending Club, Yirendai and Square; in UK listed funds, the Ranger Direct Lending Fund continues to lead returns with a monthly gain of 2.27%; the RiverNorth Marketplace Lending Fund also has a monthly gain, with a return of 0.84%; in securitization the snapshot has Lendmark Funding Trust as the most recent securitization with a pricing date of October 26. FICO CEO Will Lansing said some banks are confusing customers by using a different score which he has dubbed Fako; VantageScore, the company behind the alternative scores, says their scoring is used by thousands of lenders for credit decisions and FICO is upset over competition; FICO is the most widely used credit scoring method as trillions worth of loans have been extended using FICO; JP Morgan Chase and Capital One both use VantageScore to help customers stay alerted about their credit health and not necessarily to underwrite loans.
