Diagram has raised $25 million (USD$19.13 million) for a new fintech venture capital fund that will be led by Paul Desmarais III; Paul Desmarais is part of Quebec's Desmarais family which has built a $7 billion (USD$5.36 billion) fortune through investment in the insurance business; the new fund's initial fundraising effort has come from Portag3 Ventures LP and over 50 individual angel investors; the fund will invest in a variety of Canadian fintech companies. Leading Canadian point-of-sale (POS) platform Flexiti Financial raised an oversubscribed CAD$6.25 million (USD$5 million) convertible debt offering; they will use the capital to accelerate growth and improve technology; according to Flexiti Financial Founder and CEO Peter Kalen: "Retailers across Canada are looking for unique solutions to increase sales and maintain customer loyalty in a highly competitive and shifting market. Marketplace lender, PeerStreet, has raised $15 million in a funding round led by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz; PeerStreet offers secured real estate loans through its lending platform; the minimum investment is $1,000; investors on the platform include high net worth individuals, family offices and institutions; Andreessen Horowitz's Rampell noted the competitive advantages of PeerStreet compared to competitors included their fast growth and distribution model; he stated, "Most companies that are lending to consumers spend all the money in customer acquisition and it is very hard to get a profit." Alex Tapscott has raised $20 million for NextBlock Global, an investment firm investing in projects selling cryptographic tokens; he now has plans to list the company on the Toronto Stock Exchange; Tapscott is also the co-author of "Blockchain Revolution," which he wrote with his father, Don Tapscott, last year; with the IPO listing of NextBlock Global he hopes to further accelerate adoption of ICOs and blockchain. Stripe, the most valuable fintech startup, has raised another $150 million and is now valued at $9.2 billion; the new round is being co-led by CapitalG, an investing arm of Alphabet Inc., and General Catalyst Partners; Sequoia Capital is also reported to be participating; Stripe is used by businesses to accept and track digital payments. Aspire Financial Technologies has announced a new asset-level disclosure data and analytics module; the module is targeted for securitization professionals; it provides free access to market participants seeking to analyze loan-level characteristics and performance data of US public securitizations; data is from SEC Edgar filings and is provided as a result of Reg AB II from the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act which requires certain public securitization issuers to post monthly asset level disclosures on public securitization trusts.
