PIMCO’s CTO Dirk Manelski told Business Insider that the asset manager is building a data science platform for all their employees to use; each employee can become what they are calling a citizen data scientist; each employee will be able to use the platform for a task that fits their need; in the past different employees would ask different groups to provide certain data, now they can grab that data themselves; he explains to Business Insider, “No matter where you sit in the firm, if you have questions you want to answer, data you want to analyze, you’re empowered to do it.”; hundreds of employees have already started using the platform which was built in part with open-source technology Python.
