PitchIt Podcast #50: Chris Peacock of Aquaoso

On episode 50 I talk with Chris Peacock of Aquaoso. Aquaoso is a climate fintech company providing data, analytics, and risk reports to financial institutions.

The climate is one of the most interesting topics out there today, there is a lot of discussion around the topic but depending on where you live the action being taken differs widely. Europe versus the US is the clearest example.

Aquaoso is helping lenders get a better handle on climate risks for making loans, especially agriculture loans.

Chris and I take a deep dive into where the climate discussion is today, what climate data is available and what it looks like, regulatory policy, the generational divide on climate policy and action, raising capital, and a whole lot more.

So without further ado I present Chris Peacock of Aquaoso. I hope you all enjoy the show and be prepared to learn:

  • Chris’s journey to Aquaoso
  • His passion for water and the climate
  • Why he is an awful employee, hint: he is an entrepreneur
  • The regulatory difference between Europe and the U.S.
  • Why Europe is 5 – 7 years ahead of the U.S. with climate issues
  • Data is hard to acquire and make actionable today
  • The climate discussion is still focused on carbon and net-zero
  • There are 4 major trends: generational, the climate itself, regulation, and digital
  • Aquaoso uses 70 – 80 different data sets
  • Why standards can help change the conversation
  • Biggest lesson: celebrate wins, no matter how small
  • Take any advice with a grain of salt
  • Favorite startup book: The Messy Middle by Scott Belsky
  • Latest book read: Lead Upwards by Sarah Brown
  • And much more…
