The World Bank Hopes Fintech Can Help Alleviate Global Poverty

As recently at 2017 there were still 1.7 billion people without access to the financial system; Ceyla Pazarbasioglu, vice-president for equitable growth, finance and institutions of the World Bank, believes there is a lot of potential in fintech to help alleviate this number; she explains to the FT, “You have good finance, bad finance, and ugly finance?.?.?.?You need to make sure it serves citizens, the SMEs [small and medium-sized enterprises], and not just the banker, or the wealthy, or the chosen few.”; the World Bank says more financial institutions have also become more acceptable of financial inclusion; while there are certainly risks the potential by far outweighs them and the World Bank is now looking to fintech as a way to continue helping alleviate global poverty.
