Bitcoin Software Addition 'SegWit' Could Make Digital Currency Faster The Bitcoin community is ready to roll out an enhancement to the digital currency's code base; SegWit (which stands for "Segregated Witness") separates the encrypting of the transaction information from the currency miner's validation signature; currency miners need extensive computing resources and time to prove that a transaction is true and valid, therefore this step has traditionally slowed down the recording of transactions; done with testing, the new SegWit feature could be released as soon as November 15th; it is considered officially adopted once 95% of the Bitcoin software community deploys the code; this could take as little as a month or two, or significantly longer.
Government officials recently created legislation for P2P lenders in Lithuania; FinBee, a small business lender is the first to have received the license and has officially launched using Madiston's software; according to FinBee CEO Laimonas Noreika: "We were delighted to be the first P2P platform to receive our license to help small businesses borrow to finance their growth. Online multi-lender, LendingTree, has acquired CompareCards, owned by Iron Horse Holdings; the acquisition will expand LendingTree's online credit card comparison offering also bringing new technology, issuer relationships and educational tools to the site; LendingTree's stock has gained 13.44% following the company's announcement. American Banker profiles Instant Financial which was founded in 2015; the company aims to shorten the time frame to when employees get paid; using the app employees can unlock portions of their paychecks which can provide an alternative to payday loans; they recently partnered with Sutton Bank in Ohio for their US expansion. USAA went live on Wednesday with a virtual assistant that works with Amazon's Alexa voice interaction device; Alexa will be able to answer commands from consumers who ask about accounts, balances, spending and transactions; USAA is now one of many financial institutions working with Alexa and as American Banker points out the USAA version is more flexible with voice commands than other institutions; when prompting Alexa they do not need to say the command a certain way, they can say the command as they wish; USAA is working with software company Clinc to customize their experience, as Jason Mars, Clinc's CEO, tells American Banker, "You've got this ability to speak to it in a messy, convoluted way, and the AI can understand everything, you feel like you're speaking to a human in the room." Private markets company SharesPost has released its 1st Annual Private Tech Investor Survey which finds private market investors bullish about 2017; private market investors think the correction that has occurred in 2016 has positioned the market for growth in 2017; 49% of survey participants think valuations will increase for private companies in 2017; private market investors are also bullish on initial public offerings for 2017; 65% of survey participants think ten or fewer unicorns will go public in the next 18 months which suggests two IPOs per quarter in 2017, an increase from only three IPOs in 2016.
