Venmo Adds Instant Bank Transfers

After a successful pilot last summer Venmo has started to roll out instant bank transfers; the service will require a Visa or Mastercard debit card and allow for transfers to be done within 30 minutes for $0.25 fee; the free version of bank transfers will remain; PayPal, who owns Venmo, hopes the instant transfers will help with revenues. Venmo Payments Now Accepted at 2 Million Retailers

PayPal has helped to secure the ability for Venmo payments to be accepted at over 2 million retailers; users will be able to make purchases in store and online using the Venmo app; the move will help PayPal to get merchants interested in other products and allows them to begin monetizing Venmo; the strategy is another piece of good news for PayPal as just this week they surpasses Amex in market cap. Venmo Seeing Market Evolution through Acquisitions

Payments company Venmo has grown significantly from its founding by Iqram Magdon-Ismail and Andrew Kortina; it was acquired for $26 million by payment processor Braintree and is now owned by PayPal after an $800 million acquisition in 2013; through acquisitions the firm's payment processes have evolved; in 2016 the firm transacted $18 billion; now as a PayPal company it has been plugged into PayPal's compliance infrastructure for tracking fraudulent payments and settlements; as a PayPal company it has also been able to offer new services and its executive team has been integrated with PayPal helping the company to develop new market positioning.
