CNBC has released their 7th annual version of the CNBC Disrupter 50 which consists of startups who have exploited niches and have the potential to be billion dollar businesses; 36 of the 50 have already become unicorns, which means their valuation has reached or passed $1bn; the 50 companies have raised over $46 billion in venture capital at an implied Disruptor 50 list market valuation of more than $266 billion, according to PitchBook data; fintech companies making the list include Stripe (13), Kabbage (14), TransferWise (23), SoFi (26), Affirm (33), Ellevest (45) and Robinhood (47).
