Standard Chartered China's credit cards can now be added to WeChat user payment accounts, marking the first foreign capital-backed bank to cooperate with Tencent this way; according to Tencent Financial Technology Group (Tencent FiT) Payment Platform Product Manager Chen Qiru. the cooperation will help WeChat Pay to acquire more international users and WeChat Pay will strengthen cooperation with international financial institutions. China's online brokerage market for retail investors is growing rapidly; Barron's suggests investment in China's Huatai Securities (6886.HK) which is one of the online brokerage market's best positioned companies; the firm is China's largest brokerage by trading volume and offers low commission rates; its business is also diversified with its wealth management unit increasing assets under management by 44% in 2016; Barron's cautions investors on the firm's earnings, with comparable net profit down 44% in the first three quarters however analysts are expecting an earnings increase of 21% in 2017. The People's Bank of China is reportedly ramping up efforts to create a digital currency that would coincide with their paper currency; the currency released by the People's Bank of China will be legal currency and make use of special encrypted technology; there has been an effort within the central bank to create a digital currency since 2014; problems related to the right technology and deployment of the currency have persisted. AT Zuche is a Shanghai-based peer-to-peer car rental platform with over five million users and 200,000 vehicles; it has announced a $58 million Series C financing round from investors including Matrix Partners China; Matrix Partners China also recently invested in insurtech app Anxin Doctor which raised RMB200 million ($28 million) for a healthcare service focused on women and children; CreditEase Insurance Agency, a CreditEase affiliate, has also added new capital of RMB80 million ($11 million) for its insurance platform. Chinese bitcoin exchanges OKCoin and Huobi have announced they will pause bitcoin withdrawals for one month; the companies report that the halted withdrawals will allow them to improve their anti-money laundering capabilities and improve their processes for mitigating fraudulent transactions. Indian digital lender Capital Float is reportedly beginning a fundraising deal that would result in Rs 300 crore ($47 million) of new capital; the round is being led by Ribbit Capital and the firm is expecting a valuation of approximately Rs 1,300 crore ($203 million) following the deal; Capital Float plans to expand its lending portfolio to consumer lending and will also seek to finance kirana stores.
