Fincon12 is Happening in Denver in September

FinCon12What is Fincon12? It is the second annual Financial Bloggers Conference where a bunch of bloggers and finance geeks get together to chat, learn and have a good time. It is a chance for those of us who sit holed up in our home offices most of the time to get out and meet other people who do the same thing.

I went to last year’s event in Chicago and it was great. Not only did I learn a ton, I met many people who I had only known through their blogs or on Twitter. I had already decided that I would go to the 2012 event when I found out it would be in Denver. Hooray! No plane tickets or hotels needed.

I am Participating in the Olympics

Personal Finance OlympicsNo, not those Olympics but rather the Personal Finance Olympics (I hope they got approval from the IOC to use that name). It is being run by GoBankingRates.com and is part of Fincon12. How it works is that bloggers submit an article in one of the “events” or categories and then people vote on the best articles. The gold medallists receive fame and a $1,000 American Express gift card.

I submitted my article, Crowdfunding, Crowdinvesting and P2P Lending in the Cutting Edge Banking & Technology category. I am hoping to make the finals but I need your help. Go to my article and then just click the “Vote” button on the left side of the page. And thank you.

I May Be Presenting at Fincon12

I had never heard of Ignite! until a couple of months ago but there will be an Ignite! event at Fincon12. At an Ignite event participants are given five minutes to speak about their professional or personal passions. There is a strict format of 20 slides with each slide showing for just 15 seconds before it is automatically advanced.

I put in a submission to be included and my presentation titled 20 Things You Didn’t Know About P2P Lending made the first cut. To make it to the final presentation my idea must get enough votes. The voting page is here, it is really for people who are intending to go to Fincon12 but I believe anyone can vote.

If you are going to Fincon12 let me know, I would love to catch up there. And if you voted for me, I really appreciate it.
