Google Cloud has added a new security layer to their cloud offering to better protect customer data. Confidential Virtual Machines, or VMs, the first product in Google Cloud’s Confidential Computing portfolio; VMs encrypt data while it is being processed, this is in addition to the encryption it does when data is stored and in transit. “At JPMorgan Chase, protecting data is one of our highest priorities,” Morgan Akers, a Director at JPMorgan Chase, said in a Google Cloud blog post, according to American Banker. “Confidential Computing is an emerging technology that we are excited to explore as part of our data protection strategy.” Simplicity is the other advantage for the new VMs, as clients can click a checkbox and automatically convert from a regular VM to a confidential VM.
