Penta is a German based fintech company that is looking to improve business banking with their Compass platform; Penta is streamlining the process to allow founders the ability to open up an account in less than 15 minutes; further features will be added in the coming months to assist founders with other registration and legal issues related to starting a small business. Stripe, the most valuable fintech startup, has raised another $150 million and is now valued at $9.2 billion; the new round is being co-led by CapitalG, an investing arm of Alphabet Inc., and General Catalyst Partners; Sequoia Capital is also reported to be participating; Stripe is used by businesses to accept and track digital payments. RateSetter Australia is one of the country's leading P2P lenders, introducing the first P2P lending platform in the country for retail investors in 2014; the company has announced a new addition to its Australian board of directors which serves separately from its parent company RateSetter UK; Vaughn Richtor will join the board bringing significant retail banking experience from his role as CEO of ING Direct; Richtor will help advise the company in key initiatives including improving alternative banking channels and growing market share in personal and business loans. A new study has been released by two researchers at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government; it reports on the evolution of online lending and outlines factors for sustainability; suggestions include harmonizing state lending laws and increasing state usury caps; the entire report can be downloaded from this link. Payday lender, Advance America, and its representative association, the Community Financial Services Association of America (CFSA), have filed a motion with the court to halt regulatory pressure on banks to end relationships with payday lenders; the motion follows the decision by U.S. Bancorp and four other banks to end their relationship with Advance America citing regulatory pressure as a factor; regulators say they have done nothing to pressure banks to end relationships with payday lenders; the court motion is part of an ongoing litigation process involved with a court case filed by Advance America and the CFSA in 2014. National Australia Bank's (NAB) venture capital business, NAB Ventures has joined in an investment round raising $24 million for Veem, a foreign exchange startup business; Veem provides business to business cross border payment services with blockchain technology; NAB and NAB Ventures have been actively involved in technology investments also investing in Data Republic, Medipass Solutions and Localz; Australia is also taking a lead role in developing blockchain standards globally; it is active in the development of blockchain standards through the ISO/TC 307 and will host the first international blockchain standards meeting for ISO/TC 307.
