Video: Ning Tang of CreditEase Says CBRC Regulation Will Have Positive Long-Term Affects

In an interview with CNBC, Ning Tang, CEO of CreditEase, provides insight on the China Banking Regulatory Commission’s regulation for China’s P2P lending industry; says the regulation will have positive long-term affects; focuses on the requirement of P2P lenders to work with banks as a custodian and says CreditEase has complied with this requirement for many years.  Source

51 Credit Raises $84mn Series C+ Round for Fintech Investment Fund

Chinese credit card management firm, 51 Credit, has raised $84 million in Series C+ funding from Harvest Capital and Yintai Group, this is soon after they secured $310 million from Series C funding; the fundraising will help the company establish its own investment fund targeting fintech companies; in total the firm has raised $444 million in equity capital; according to Sun Haitao, 51 Credit CEO, the fund will be launched within a year, and will focus on asset management, data and credit services.  Source

Prime Venture Partners and Sequoia Capital India Lead $6.25mn in KredX

India-based platform, KredX, who focuses on providing short-term working capital to blue-chip companies, has raised a Series A round; Sequoia Capital has joined existing investor Prime Venture Partners in the round; company was founded in 2015 and has facilitated 3,000 transactions ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1 crore (approximately $1,600 to $214,000); company views invoice discounting market opportunity at $100 billion.  Source

MPOWER Financing Raised $6mn in New Funding

MPOWER Financing, which provides funding for international students attending US universities, secured $6 million in funding; the round was led by private equity firm, Zephyr Peacock India; the company will use the capital to enhance its technology and expand marketing efforts in emerging markets, especially India; in addition to providing loans the company also helps to build credit history of students and provides them with personal finance education to use in life after college.  Source

Insurtech Firm, EverQuote, Raises $23mn

Online auto insurance company, EverQuote, has raised $23 million in Series B funding; the funding is part of a pre-IPO plan to provide liquidity to its founders and employees; the firm will also use the funding to hire 120 employees focused on sales and data; plans also include directly selling insurance on the platform with the use of proprietary data from the firm's app, EverDrive.  Source

Payments International Announces FinTech Finalists and Judges for November Shark Tank Competition

Payments International is hosting the "FinTech and Future of Payments Forum" in London from  November 15th to 18th; the agenda on Nov.18 includes their own version of "Shark Tank"-like business pitch competitions; finalists and judges have been announced in the areas of Identity (including blockchain), financial inclusion/personal financial management; the Internet of Things, and cross-border payments. Using Blockchain to Generate Loan Identifiers

Lendingcalc.com and PUFIN have filed for a patent on a system that would use blockchain technology to give loans unique indentifiers, like CUSIPs; the system could help with greater market transparency; Lendingcalc.com and PUFIN have begun plans for implementing their system as an open source option for the industry; other firms have introduced this concept with a fee-based system however Lendingcalc.com and PUFIN are marketing their system as free with no fees.  Source

Lendio Raises $20mn, Seeks to Enhance Servicing for Online Small Business Loans

Small business loan facilitator, Lendio, has secured $20 million in a financing round led by investment from Comcast Ventures and Stereo Capital; Dave Zilberman of Comcast Ventures will be joining the firm's board of directors following the financing round; the firm seeks to partner with small business lenders in order to help them find the best loan provider for their needs; they currently partner with approximately 75 loan providers; in the third quarter they helped facilitate $63 million in loans for small businesses, an increase of 93% from the third quarter of 2015.  Source

Elevate Expands Their Product Line, Still Holding Off on IPO

Sub-prime lender Elevate, while still awaiting the right time to go public, has expanded their product line by offering customers a line of credit for up to $3,500 called Elastic; Republic Bank is the issuer of the credit line and according to Elevate's CEO, Ken Rees, there are other institutions showing interest; Rees explains further, "Banks are terrible at lending outside of their branch footprint and they are not good at customer acquisition. We provide products and a set of underwriting tools that fits for non-prime customers."  Source
