OCC Softens in Republican Lead Government

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has shifted back to a softer stance since the Trump administration took office; according to the New York Times the agency is using directives from the interim head to ease back regulations enacted during the Obama administration; the move is part of a wider push to set back financial regulations that some say have hurt banks in recent years. SoFi Helps Borrowers Get Back on Their Feet

In an article from Quartz several stories are outlined sharing how SoFi has helped borrowers get re-employed or negotiate for higher salaries; in one example Joanna Mathews was laid off and called SoFi to get forbearance on her credit consolidation loan which was approved; Joanna was subsequently assigned a counselor to help in the process to find employment, speaking weekly to her counselor; Joanna attended webinars on writing resumes and interviewing, eventually landing 15 interviews; after a three month search Joanna was employed again; in another story a borrower reached out to a SoFi coach for tips on salary negotiation, bargaining for an additional $6,000 per year using tips from SoFi.  Source

Yahoo Finance Launches Savings App

Yahoo Finance launched a new savings app called Tanda which allows groups of five or nine people to save money; the app pools money from the group each month and each member of the group gets access to the pool at different months; the company charges a fee on the first two payouts but offers a bonus to users who can wait for the money; the pool can reach $2,000 and Tanda has partnered with Dwolla to vet users.
