President Donald Trump is expected to ease regulatory burdens across the financial services industry; some marketplace lenders believe this could help to cause less friction; “We want to deliver a frictionless experience but there’s all this friction—hopefully this administration will be helpful,” said Marlette Funding CEO and Founder Jeffrey Meiler on a panel at LendIt USA 2017; the current market environment includes expectations for rising rates and less regulation which seems to be helping the outlook for a growing marketplace lending industry with opportunities across a range of categories including mortgage lending and business lending. FT Alphaville analyzes a new report by the Bank of International Settlements (BIS) which looks at central bank cryptocurrencies; the biggest takeaway as the FT points out is central banks could add to the pool of anonymous cash in the system by digitizing currency in such a way that digital accounts remain anonymous. Yahoo Finance launched a new savings app called Tanda which allows groups of five or nine people to save money; the app pools money from the group each month and each member of the group gets access to the pool at different months; the company charges a fee on the first two payouts but offers a bonus to users who can wait for the money; the pool can reach $2,000 and Tanda has partnered with Dwolla to vet users. Forbes has released its 30 Under 30 Asia 2017 list of top venture capitalists and fintech entrepreneurs; the list includes fintech entrepreneurs managing P2P lending platforms in India, Philippines, China and South Korea; some of the top entrepreneurs in marketplace lending include Zhang Xiaoliang, cofounder of Beijing Kuaikuai Network Technology, and Wang Zeng, founder of Mujinnong.
