Lufax Expanding to Hong Kong and Singapore, Also Working on IPO

Shanghai-based marketplace lender, Lufax, has announced it will be expanding its business into Hong Kong and Singapore; firm also announced plans in September for a Hong Kong-listed IPO which is expected to raise approximately $5 billion; company will leverage its relationship with Ping An for the expansion; funding for the expansion will also be supported by a $1.2 billion fundraise from earlier in the year. Yirendai Reports Earnings Results for the Fourth Quarter and Full Year of 2016

Yirendai, an affiliate of CreditEase, is the only Chinese online lender publicly traded on a US exchange; its stock price closed at $29.29 prior to the company's earnings announcement after the closing bell on March 15; year-to-date the stock is up 41.36%; the earnings results showed revenue of $154.3 million for the fourth quarter, beating estimates by $19.38 million and increasing 137% from the comparable quarter; revenue for the year was $466.4 million an increase from $190.1 million in 2015; earnings per share for the fourth quarter were $0.91, beating estimates by $0.58 and increasing 287% from the comparable quarter; earnings per share for the year were $2.72 an increase from $0.79. Saving Stream and Lendy have merged and will now combine operations under the Lendy platform; the platform will focus on property development lending and plans to triple its loan issuance in 2017; Paul Riddell, head of marketing and communications at Lendy had the following comments regarding the merger, "Unifying our lender and borrower brands together under one banner – and on a single online platform – is a step that allows us to streamline our process and make our offering simpler for the entire market." PBoC Advisor Backs China’s ICO Ban

CoinDesk reports that Sheng Songcheng, counselor to the PBoC and an adjunct professor of economics and finance at the China Europe International Business School, explained that the Chinese government was right to move ahead with the ban; “In my opinion, these actions are largely aimed at averting risk and protecting investors’ interests while also being an opportunity to further regulate trading of virtual currencies,” as Songcheng writes in Caixin.
