According to ThreatMetrix, digital fraud has been costing insurance companies approximately $250 billion annually in recent years; data from ThreatMetrix also reports that fraudsters have compromised over five billion personal identities, 1 in 10 insurance accounts are fraudulent and 3% to 5% of all claims in the US are fraudulent which adds approximately $400 to the cost of a family's insurance per year; with these statistics, development in advanced fraud solutions is also becoming important for insurtech; machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) are the main drivers behind many of the industry's fraud detection solutions and the AI capabilities are expected to gain even more traction as additional solutions evolve. Real estate marketplace lender Better Mortgage has raised $15 million in a new funding round bringing its total valuation to $220 million; the funding was provided by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Pine Brook Partners; the firm seeks to offer fast approvals for home loans and uses advanced algorithms to match borrower attributes with lending criteria from 20 large home loan buyers; launched in January 2016, the firm has funded over $500 million in home loans and is targeting $1.5 billion in originations for 2017. Ernst & Young announced its annual Fintech Asia 100 list at the Singapore FinTech Festival; Next Money, Ernst & Young and Visa all contributed to the list; statistics from the list reported 26% of the individuals were female, 38 entrepreneurs, 41 CEOs, 15 different markets, India with the most members on the list at 18, and Singapore, Hong Kong and mainland China with 15. Canadian robo advisor WealthBar now manages over CAD$100 million (USD$75.93 million) in assets under management; the firm was launched in 2014; it currently offers online onboarding, investment management, financial planning and an individual advisor; its services have also expanded to private investment portfolios and registered retirement savings plans. LendingRobot has announced the launch of a new alternative lending hedge fund; Lend Academy provides details in their article; the new fund will add to the service offerings at LendingRobot which currently include aggregated marketplace lending investment accounts for both retail investors and financial advisors; the new LendingRobot Series fund will invest in online loan origination platforms and offer multiple strategies for investors with expected net returns ranging from 6.86% to 9.66%; the fund is only open to accredited investors and requires a minimum investment of $100,000; it has a 1% management fee with fund expenses of up to 0.59%.
