LendUp and Oportun are both helping underserved consumers in the USA. ZestFinance is providing the underwriting engine that enables lenders throughout the world to expand their customer base and China Rapid Finance is helping the emerging middle class access credit in China.
In the USA there are 53 million people who do not have a credit file with the major bureaus. Oportun creates proprietary risk models that score those people that most of the industry finds unscoreable. The Hispanic community, where they focus, has unique challenges that Oportun is addressing directly.

NSR Invest, which allows Lending Club and Prosper investors to analyze loan data and direct investments, has made Prosper's Q3 data available; users can now backtest the most recent Prosper loan data and view trends of older vintages yet to reach maturity; originations for Q3 2016 totaled $311 million. Finexcap, an online invoice financing platform, has partnered with Sage to expand its customer base; through the partnership the two firms have created Sage Clic&Cash; Sage Clic&Cash will offer invoice financing to approximately 600,000 small business clients using the software product Sage or Ciel. Currently the student loan debt market is at approximately $1.4 trillion; market share from government lenders has been on the rise under the Obama administration with federal student loans accounting for approximately 93% of the market versus 88% in 2008; in the Trump administration it is likely that private lenders will take a larger share as Republicans favor more financing options from private sector participants; since the November 8 election, shares of private lender Sallie Mae have increased 55%; marketplace lenders are also likely to take part in a market shift towards private student lending, specifically as their student loan offerings continue to expand. Australian online lender SocietyOne is celebrating its fifth year in business with its first loan issued in August 2012; in June 2017 the platform reported cumulative originations of $300 million and since inception has helped over 13,000 customers; the firm says it has plans for expanding to new areas of lending over the long-term and will seek to obtain a 2% to 3% share of the $100 billion consumer finance market. The platform reported a record month in August after launching the cashback offer, gaining over GBP2.25 ($2.91 million) million of investment; LendingCrowd will extend the offer through September 30, giving investors GBP150 ($195) for every GBP2,500 ($3,257) invested; the platform offers investors access to SME loans and has lent GBP17 million ($21.95 million) since launching in 2014.
